Contingency (Percentage) Fees vs. Hourly Rates
Most personal injury cases are funded on a contingency fee basis. This means our Ontario personal injury lawyers are paid a percentage of the amount we recover for you. If we do not recover for you, we don’t receive a fee. This is our “NO FEE GUARANTEE” program.
If you wish, we may consider handling your personal injury case on an hourly basis. This means you would pay our Ottawa personal injury lawyers for each hour we work on your behalf. If you are interested in an hourly arrangement, please ask and we will be happy to discuss it with you.
From our experience, we have found that the contingent fee arrangement is what most of our clients want. This is because most injured victims cannot afford to pay the cost of hiring a lawyer by the hour. However, the choice is yours.
Personal Injury Law Firm Disbursements (Expenses)
You are legally responsible for the costs we pay on your behalf. (Personal Injury Lawyers call them disbursements.) You can choose to pay these costs up front, on an ongoing basis. Or, if we have a contingency arrangement, we can advance the costs for you. Your decision will affect the percentage that we charge as our fee.
If we advance the costs for you, the money we advance will be deducted from the settlement amount. We do not charge interest or any other fee for advancing this money. Also, we do not charge for phone calls, copies, faxes or postage, like many other law firms do. Rules of Ethics and the Solicitors Act
