Ottawa Cycling Accident | Lance Armstrong's CommentsOn Sunday July 19, 2009, just before 8 am, five Ottawa cyclists were mowed down by a van that did not stop. A number of the victims remain in hospital, at least one with very grave injuries. Fortunately, by mid-afternoon on Sunday, the van driver turned himself in to police. He remains in jail, at least until today, while police clarify the scope of the criminal charges he will face. From halfway across the world, superstar cyclist Lance Armstrong sent words of solidarity and hope to the victims of this horrific accident through his video blog: "… there was a group of cyclists hit in Ottawa yesterday by a van that just kept going, a hit-and run, and I hope everybody there is doing well and we’re all thinking about you," ..."Be safe on the roads, any time you have that interaction of bikes and cars, you never know what can happen." He was recording his blog from the Tour de France. To read our blogs about this accident, click here, here and here. For more information about Ottawa bicycle accidents, click here. |
