“When you’re doing personal injury law you tend to get a really good idea of what the case means to your client. And after spending so much time on their file, to see it come to an end and see the relief on their faces and the help they get – that’s very rewarding.”

It’s no surprise that Paolo D’Asti became a lawyer. After all, pretty much his entire educational career since high school has revolved around the law.

“I’ve always been interested in it,” he says, adding that his enthusiasm was first seriously sparked by a high school law class. He then majored in criminology with a focus on law before attending law school at Queen’s University in Kingston, where he developed a strong interest in personal injury law after taking a third-year course on the subject.

“It’s very unique. I was drawn to it for that reason, and because I really like being able to help clients,” he says. “The type of clients you get are clients who really need your help.”

Paolo grew up in the Barrhaven area of Ottawa, where his family – originally from Montreal – still lives. After graduating from Queen’s law school in 2017 he spent 12 months articling at a local firm, running his own small claims files with help from lawyers in the office.

Having participated in various sports since a young age, Paolo now plays in a co-ed soccer league along with several racquet sports including tennis and badminton. He’s also a big board game fan. But perhaps his most significant passion outside of work is music – a former drummer and singer-songwriter, he now channels his musical creativity by laying down hip hop-inspired tracks using digital studio software on his computer at home.
